I knew I wanted to be a dentist from a very young age.  My uncle and great grandfather were both dentists, the latter practicing well into his 90s.  He would tell stories of his time practicing through the Great Depression and the fulfillment he received from being able to provide care during that difficult time period.  In addition to familial ties, I had a life changing personal experience through orthodontics that really solidified my future goals.  I saw first-hand what dentistry could change for a patient’s self-esteem and knew I wanted to be able to provide that same confidence for others in the future.

I truly enjoy the variety general dentistry offers, but my favorite moments typically surround alleviating a patient’s anxiety or pain when treatment rendered is much more comfortable and enjoyable than they were expecting.  As I approach 10 years in practice, I am committed to continuing education and staying abreast of the current research.  Dentistry is an ever-changing profession and I take pride in seeking out the most efficient and conservative treatments through new technology and materials, with patient experience always at the forefront.

My Education and Experience

I grew up a native of eastern North Carolina, born and raised in Wilson.  In the summers, my family and I would move to Carteret County, creating a love for the area that would eventually lead me back here permanently.

I went on to attend North Carolina State University, graduating magna cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in biological sciences.  I then continued my studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where I earned my Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree.  I am so proud to be a graduate of two incredible institutions, however, I will always pull for the Heels!

Although I enjoy all aspects of general dentistry, I supplemented my dental education with elective courses in maternal & child health and pediatric dental emergencies, cultivating a special joy in providing well-rounded and comprehensive care to young families.

Outside the office:

In my free time you will typically find me out on the water with my husband, Duke, and our English lab, Stella.  We never miss an opportunity to relax on the sandbar or simply cruise to dinner.  In the fall and winter, we enjoy bird hunting, an activity that holds special memories for us both.  We have traveled all over North America, pheasant, goose and duck hunting with our families.  I also enjoy attending as many UNC sporting events as possible, and continuing to pursue my lifelong passion for horses.  I grew up competitively riding, a love instilled in me by my mother, and even had the opportunity recently to ride in Dubai.  Our next adventure is looking forward to growing our family.

I take the utmost pride in providing the best dental care possible and I feel incredibly fortunate to be able to serve a community that has shaped me since before I can remember.
